Monica's Story

MONARCH (Monica's Ovarian cancer Network
for Awareness, Research, Cure and Health)

"It whispers...so listen"

Monica was thirty-eight years old when she passed away from ovarian
cancer on September 24, 2003.  Monica was the daughter of Eileen and Joseph Williams.  Monica was the fourth daughter of six girls.

Monica was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in July of 2002.  During the summer, fall and winter of 2002-2003, Monica underwent surgery, chemotherapy and radiation treatments.  In April of 2003, Monica was told by her doctors that she was cancer free.  She and her family were so thankful.  However by the end of May and through June it became evident that the cancer had returned.  Despite additional chemotherapy treatments and hope that she would be considered for clinical trials, there was nothing else that could be offered.

Monica never gave up her fight with ovarian cancer and she had hope
till the end.

Throughout her life, Monica was a kind and generous soul.  She was
giving with her time, her talents, and her love.  Monica's light shined brightly
and its warmth was felt by all who met her.

Monica lived fervently, laughed heartily and often and she loved and was loved deeply.  Monica encouraged, supported, and praised any endeavor undertaken by those around her no matter how great or insignificant.  Her greatest passion was her nieces and nephews.  She celebrated their successes and helped them with their frustrations.

Monica's impact in this world was far reaching.  She touched the life of her students as a preschool teacher and the lives of her patients as a nurse. Her compassion and empathy made her well suited for both careers.

During the final stages of her life, Monica was very troubled by the suffering endured by others also facing this devastating disease.  It was her wish to spread the word about ovarian cancer so that others could be spared the pain of this disease.

Monica died as she lived, with hope, passion, an unbreakable spirit, and a belief in the resurrection.

The butterfly for Monica's family is a sign of resurrection.  We feel that when we see butterflies they are a sign from Monica that she is happy in heaven.
